“Pizza Day”
The Aquabats

Today is National Pizza Day, as The Aquabats so nostalgically showed us in their ode to times of structured hot lunch, it is important that we embrace the things that make life worth living… Things like pizza. Welcome to my celebration of pizza.

It was the great teen-philosopher Michaelangelo who left us with this piece of wisdom that still rings as true today, as it did when proclaimed it in 1990.

Wise man say: “Forgiveness is divine, but never pay full price for late pizza.”

The Pizza Underground is an American rock band based in New York City. And yes, vocals, kazoo, and percussion are performed by the one who made us all long for the day when we would be adult enough to enjoy “A Lovely Cheese Pizza, Just For Me,” Macaulay Culkin.

Sadly, just last month, Kevin McCallister himself revealed that the Pizza Underground had broken up.

And while we’re in this cheesy nostalgia of the 90’s love for pizza, how about this remix from those classic Full House Oseln twins known simply as “Gimme Pizza.”

From the brilliant mind of Vincent Gargiulo comes this commercial as seen in his film that transports us back 1986 to watch KNFR, Channel 13 Yreka, 7:00 am – 7:30 am.

Pizza is enjoyed across the social strata that make up our culture. Even Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig has been known to go lips-deep into a pie. Before he was leading the prep-rock VW, he was releasing music as L’Homme Run on Myspace, showing us that a Pizza Party is both for the pure indie artist and corporate shill alike.

Thank you for cutting through this personal pan of love, nostalgia, and humor. I leave you now right back where we started, with an example of what pizza is all about, doing things that make you happy. So enjoy your PIZZA DAY, undoubtedly, THE BEST DAY OF THE WEEK!
